Jekyll Island Trail

mountain bike trail

October, 2017 by rtfranks

We ride this often. The actual trail is 19 miles. You do some dirt, road, bridges, go through woods, over creeks, through ancient oaks and in front of the beach. Very nice. Needs lots of repairs and cleaning after Hurricane Irma.

Excellent!

Tried the trail for the first time in July...hot! What a nice trail! Be very careful at road crossings. Great facilities and interesting stops along the way.

Amelia Island Trail

Nice path but too close to the main road

May, 2017 by lsbd64

We road from the State Park on the southern end to Peters Point and back. We thought this trail might have some ocean views but it doesn't, except at the endpoints. Its a nice ride but it's literally right next to busy A1A highway. The trail crosses it 3 times and there is a lot of road noise from the big trucks on A1A. You will be safe on this path, but if you want a quiet ride, this is not the trail for you.

Jacksonville-Baldwin Rail-Trail

Awesome trail very quiet and mostly shaded

April, 2017 by cllichorat

We road the entire trail from east to west and back (28.4 miles). The first 3.7 miles were along power lines and open in the sun. The remainder of the trail was nice and shaded. Very flat and easy for anyone.

Palatka-to-St. Augustine State Trail

Solid trail, few crossings, few people

April, 2017 by JTAYLOR673

My wife and I tried this trail for the first time on Sunday April 02 2017. We arrived around 9:00 am and parked off of 207 where the trail and road converge. (see other review for more details.) The parking was easy to spot and there was plenty of space. There is a typical poster billboard with some information about the trail here also.

The most difficult crossing was 207. But if you aren't in a hurry and trying to maintain a pace for training or performance it isn't a big deal. If you have young kids then maybe it would be a little more nerve racking.

We gave the trail a grade of A. It was peaceful, flat, in good condition, and in the shade for much of the ride. We gave the amenities a C+. We didn't see any restrooms. And didn't pass and grocery stores or restaurants. Although we didn't leave the path at all. The could possible be some places just off the path.

We didn't see any dogs, or snakes, or chickens, or really much wildlife. The people we saw along the trail were friendly and always said good morning.

Palatka-Lake Butler State Trail

Quiet and peaceful trail

April, 2017 by lmcorey

This bike trail is very shady most of the way, with nice sunny spots in between. One BIG plus is that the asphalt is not full of tree roots like some other trails we have been on. It is very smooth and well maintained. We rode on a Saturday morning, yet only saw a few other riders. We parked at Florahome next to a bathroom which is pretty clean. There is soap inside but you have to go outside to use a spicket. There are two benches and a place to park and lock your bike. The trail is the most quiet between Grandin and Putnam Hall, but we loved the trail between Florahome and Palatka as well. We will definitely be back, highly recommend this trail.

Beautiful

March, 2017 by samistrange

This is a lovely, well-kept trail that is heavily shaded, a nice way to get some exercise and stay out of the sun (for the most part). Rode it twice during a recent stay in the area and loved it. Woods and farmland, lovely.

Northern Amelia Island Trail

February, 2017 by youker

The northern starting point with free parking and facilities is Peters Point Park right on the ocean. Heading south the trail along Amelia Island Parkway is narrow concrete so the high speed bikers might find it confining but I loved the curves and the already blossoming spring flowers. You do have to be careful at the many drive ways. I loved the fact that they had sanded off the bumps where one payment had risen above its neighbor creating a bump. There is an alternative wider trail starting at the same point and running along the main highways also to the south. Youker

Jekyll Island Trail

A must ride for the beginner or the seasoned rider

February, 2017 by racencason

The scenery is by far one of our favorites, the ride takes you from the marsh, to historic buildings, blending to the beach and ocean views, along the way you will encounter shopping and resturants, golf courses, the water park and nature. Simply a relaxing ride with mostly wide paths to alow traffic in both directions. No matter the season you will fall in love with this treasure of the coast. From the fast paced rider to the laid back cruiser, Jekyll offers something for all. We take our 6 year old nephew with us on some rides and he loves it even on his smaller bike. The trails are a very nice ride for our cruisers and our friends ride road bikes and they also found it a pleasing ride. There has been alot of improvements over the last year to the riding paths. I don't see many being disappointed after their experience here. Come for the day, stay for the week, or discover your home away from home.

Missing dog

February, 2017 by hollyvcampbell

One of our dogs were found on the bike trail 2/3/17 chocolate lab/tree Walker. We are still looking for our male pointer he is white with dark spots and dark head. He has a camo collar and tag but I'm hoping even if anyone has seen him they can direct me where to look. His name is Thor. My number is 386-503-4894 please call me; don't comment here because I'll never see it. He is so missed. Please help me find him.
