Trail is ok. Not a fan of hills after living where I did before. Trail is clean and shaded somewhat.

Greenville Health System Swamp Rabbit Trail

Riding the trails

May, 2018 by robinchilds

I love the trail and looking forward to alot of summer riding.
I have two issues though.
1) the bumps are AWEFUL and make the ride less enjoyable and if going the distance, making it hard to enjoy.
2) we sure could use a bridge or two over the 2 VERY BUSY roads we must cross.

Lower McAlpine Creek, McMullen Creek & Four Mile Creek Greenways

A good 8 miles

April, 2018 by timmy0728

Trail is mostly pavement, boardwalk (my favorite parts) and gravel that make up the 4 miles of rolling small hills. Have run the trail several times while in the area. Get to hear and see some nature during your run, walk or ride.
If in the area and want to get some miles in, this is a nice safe place.

Greenville Health System Swamp Rabbit Trail

Great biking trail.

March, 2018 by opstadp

This trail is a great trail for biking but also a busy trail. We rode it on a Friday morning in March and I was surprised to see how many people out! There were moms with strollers, people walking and "serious" bikers (the ones that probably do bike races). But really enjoyed the trail as there is a lot to see (not boring). We started at the zoo and rode the trail north up to Travelers Rest and had lunch up there at the Whistle Stop (GREAT chickens salad) and back. We even stopped on the way coming back and rode around the lake at Furman. We stopped in at the Swamp Rabbit Grocery and had some of their homemade bread! Absolutely fabulous and bought a loaf to take with us! Their cookies are delicious too! A lot of people eating their sandwiches while we were there. I think we would do that next time!
Overall our trip was about 30 miles. When we started at the zoo we found a few spots that we weren't sure which way to go but we just asked people near us which way to Travelers Rest and they pointed us in the right direction. I think they need better signage on the beginning of the trail from the point starting at the zoo. The asphalt does need a little repair in a few places but overall a very enjoyable ride! GREAT day!

Thermal Belt Rail-Trail

Trail under construction

February, 2018 by tkirkham

I like the trail location and I am sure it will be very nice when it is done but it is currently torn up for the whole length of the trail (the rail line ties and rails were dug up and the trail is not usable) in preparation for rebuilding it.

Thermal Belt Rail-Trail

TOTALLY TORN UP and not usable!!

February, 2018 by dellazoe

Went to trail and was surprised to find entire trail is in upgrade phase. All rails being pulled out and no warning or notice ANYWHERE!! I am hoping they will create a dry walking/biking path. Don't know the plans, but NOT the time to go there!!

Lower McAlpine Creek, McMullen Creek & Four Mile Creek Greenways

One of the best all-purpose trails/paths.

February, 2018 by modiorne

Walk, stroll, run, bike - mix of wide paved, boardwalk and gravel. Well maintained, in fact several sections where roots had buckled the path now re-paved. Easy for any bike, kids size through road/MTB/recumbent - use a bell/courtesy "passing on your left" because many walkers/runners are chatting or have the ear buds in. Well marked in 1/4 mile increments.
Boardwalks get very slick in rain/ice so careful when running/biking. After strong rains the path can get muddy - and flood in places.
Port-a-johns at both ends. Multiple side access paths all along the greenway. Plenty of benches spaced along.
I run/bike this regularly and rare to not see deer.

Twelve Mile Creek Trail

Great Hike/MTB trail

February, 2018 by modiorne

Wife and I hiked this trail from the NC side, parked at Harvey Clay Nesbit park, and used Carolina Thread Trail "clues" to link to this trail. We did hike the full trail to Walnut Creek side - as others have mentioned there are some rough/rugged spots so a true MTB is recommended, but hiking in sturdy shoes gets the job done too.
Beautiful trail overall.

I love the Swamp Rabbit Trail and give it a 5 star but it does need to be repaved because it makes for a very bumpy ride.

Rail Trail

October, 2017 by danawynne777

This trail has a lot of pros but one big con. Pros are: extremely well maintained (hats off to those maintaining it), no big inclines which is great if you have joint pain like I do, freakin' AWESOME. suspension bridge, beautiful walnut trees and blackberry bushes, trail follows river so nice views of that. Con: noise from highway can be heard during nearly the entire hike. This is a major turn off for me because when I hike, I want to be immersed in the sites and sounds of nature and leave the outside world behind.
