Difficult to get to trail by bike. Not well connected to local streets. Can not connect easily to Stoney Creek with no signage and directions. Difficult to connect to Warren.
I really appreciate the snow removal done by our maintainience crew. What a excellent trail we have for year round use. Thank you
Just a wide sidewalk beside a very busy road. Not well connected. Difficult to get to by bike from local area. No variety. No scenery. Very few trees.
Only good for transportation to Lake St Clair.
My husband and I love riding trails with our hybrid bikes. We discovered a section of the Polly Ann Trail in Imlay City. When we came to the road near the high school, the rest of the trail was overgrown with weeds, grass, and trees. We decided the check out the other end of the paved section to discover the rest is very hard to find. If it continues on the road, it is full of chuck pits. How in the world can they boast the length of this trail and claim it is paved, asphalt, and stone?!?! It is past time to properly surface and mark the rest of it.
I entered the trail from the West Bloomfield trail. Turning to gravel at this point the trail ran through some quiet areas but just seemed a little overgrown and understaffed. I went all the way to Pontiac, and have give thanks to the LBS for fixing a chain for me. Great people. I only had to walk a couple of miles. Trail markers to get me back on the main section of trail were in good locations.
SUMMARY: You can see historic downtowns, middle class suburbia, riverside wetlands, and heavy industry -- sometimes all at once! Trail surface not nearly as nice as Paint Creek / West Bloomfield, but tolerable except for Opdyke to Adams. If you're looking to log 20mph on Strava with a skinny-tire road bike, this is the wrong trail. But CRT offers a nice leisure ride or through connector with an interesting blend of Oakland County scenery.
Sylvan to Bagley (East Section) -- This area is a little raw, although that gives it a sort of authentic charm. It is very lightly traveled, but works fine as a connector/extension for a through ride to West Bloomfield Trail. CRT and West Bloomfield really are right across the street from each other. But bizarrely, there is no signage marking either one at the Orchard Lake crossing. Look for the pedestrian bike/crossing across Orchard Lake, and then you can pick up the trails visually. Both veer immediately away from Orchard Lake Road.
Pontiac Connector - Bagley/Opdyke sections are both paved trails that run parallel to the roads. I did not ride the South Blvd section.
Opdyke to Adams - This is the only fully paved section of the CRT, but unexpectedly has the worst-conditioned surface. If just out for a leisure bike ride, this section should be avoided. I would only ride west from Leach Road Trailhead. But it's fine for walkers. Scenery is interesting enough. I still get a thrill riding over highways, and this section has a nice bridge over I-75.
Adams to Dequindre - This section is mostly loose asphalt. It's not the best surface, but was acceptable for my 35mm tire touring bike. I would not recommend for a skinny-tire road bike. And signs say the asphalt is recycled, so that's a plus. In fact, there is an asphalt factory right along the trail, which was probably the source. You can connect midway with the Paint Creek Trail, or with Macomb-Orchard Trail at Dequindre.
I tried to run it from paint creek cider mill heading north. It was fully covered of hard ice, temperature this days are below zero celsius. I'll try it again when the season comes
Fully paved trail, thru farm fields, woods, rural. Less crowded than Paint Creek Trail. The late Summer/Fall rides are beautiful. Bonus: You can get to Achatz Pie house, 1.5 miles off trail thru Armada, only .25 miles of road riding at end.
We made the drive from Ohio on October 6th to ride the Paint Creek trail connection in Rochester to the Clinton River Trail with the intention of riding the MOT as we had heard from several riders it was exceptionally beautiful in the fall. We did ride the Clinton River Trail until it abruptly ended at, as i recall, South Blvd. then returned and headed to the MOT. However when we arrived there at the entrance, nice sign by the way, it was posted as closed about 1 mile in but no data why. Does anyone know why or the duration? We now hope to ride it in the spring. Happy fall riding everyone.
I drove from Indiana to Ann Arbor for the weekend. My daughter and I drove from Ann Arbor to the north end of the trail and rode the complete trail both ways. Excellent trail..the trestle alone is worth riding the trail, but we found it to be well maintained and very scenic. There was some horse manure, but not so much that it wasn't easily avoided. The transition from farmland to woods, to suburbs was interesting. The only negative is that they did too good a job tearing out the railroad. There is almost nothing, other than the trestle, to show it was a railroad I saw one concrete base for a signal and one "W" whistle sign off to the side. I appreciate trails that preserve the history of the line, as much as is practical.
The Polly Ann Trail in Lapeer County is approximately 23 miles long, beginning at the Oakland County/Lapeer County line and continuing north to Curtis Road.
The trail is mostly grass and generally is a delightful walk through the woods. For most of the trail, the trail is wide enough for two horses (or two bikes) to ride side by side. The trail is mowed often from spring through fall although it can have some wet/muddy spots, especially in the spring. The trail is owned by the DNR and is maintained by Lapeer County with DNR funding. In full disclosure, I am a board member of the Friends of the Polly Ann Trail, a charitable organization that does fundraising for the trail, helps with maintenance, promotes the trail, and hosts two major trail events each year.
There was a time, from 2009 until approximately 2013 when several of the bridge approaches were out due to a huge flood in 2009. Those approaches have been replaced and the entire trail is accessible.
The Friends of the Polly Ann Trail hosts a 10K walk/run, starting at the Imlay City High School and continuing to Dryden, in June of each year. In 2016 there were 50 runners/walkers who participated and were very positive about the event.
The Friends of the Polly Ann Trail also hosts "Autumn on the Polly Ann Trail" on the second Saturday of October each year. It is a horseback ride, starting at General Squier Park in Dryden. Riders can choose the length of their ride and travel either north or south on the trail. In 2015, we had 75 horses and riders and had a wonderful time.
The trail passes through Dryden, where there is a very nice gabezo, with benches, a water fountain and a map of the trial. There are several nice restaurants just west of the trail to stop for a bite to eat.
In Imlay City, there is a trailhead near the intersection of 4th Street and Black's Corner's road. The trailhead has benches, a map of the trail, ample parking and two hitching posts for horses. The trail is paved in Imlay City for approximately 1800 feet.
Very nice trail. Bikers and runners on trail but most of our walk was quiet
