Don’t waste your time here if you want to road bike. Most of the trail is under construction or grass.

New to Houston and have not found many trails for road bikers. This one is great, and will be even more so once all upgrades are completed. (Feb 25, 2018) - while a few spots take some navigating due to trail construction and/or need to pick up the trail on the other side, the path is wide and well maintained. Today, runoff had left a few wet/muddy spots - which left a skunk mark on my back, but that just proves I had fun. I hope future plans include signage to let trail users know what street, sights, and amenities are near each underpass.

Location: McKee St. bridge entrance (no paved entrance) North of Buffalo Bayou heading east past Jensen Dr. until it converts into Swiney St.
This trail has no signs of entry or maintenance and is filled with homeless people seen along the trail (use caution).
The path under the 59 overpass seems especially unsafe hidden from public view and also filled with homeless and suspicious-looking people.
I wouldn't recommend and would avoid this trail (especially if alone). I couldn't find any updates by the city of Houston on the construction progress of this trail.
A great ride for the casual cyclist. I was out on a Sunday (late morning into mid afternoon) for about 3 hrs and found it to be it good shape. Two things that could be improved: some wayfinding signage and some intermediate "facilities"!

Numerous major detours of closed trail around the medical center area.
Would have been nice to know this info. prior to making the trip.

Trail that was open was really nice. Bluebonnets were seen in some areas already.
Eastern sections of the trail from Mason Park to UH and MacGregor Park are so pretty! Very natural with lots of flowers, plants and wildlife. The stretch in the medical center and beyond is more urban, but very functional. Lots of recent upgrades to the trail and more is planned to expand the trail out to the city limits at Eldridge. Overall, I love this trail! #BayouGreenways
We were in Katy,TX over Christmas 2016 and rode in Hershey Park.Not knowing what to expect we chose the cyclocross bikes and that was the right choice.The paved paths are quite rolling and rough at times because of the early summer floods that impacted the trail.Segments on the east end were impacted and in some cases based away.You can get around some of the damaged areas but the last east mile is closed as it was totally wasted out.Overall an interesting ride with some sharp transitions along the way.We parked in the park on Memorial Drive off Hwy 6.Restrooms and kids park there.Would be very helpful if there was signage on the west end which connects with the George Bush Park.No way to figure it out unless you see another rider making the transition between the two.
Getting better, better signage for pedestrians and bike trails would be great. I encountered peds on bike trail very often.
Though there were a few discarded grocery carts in the bayou and some sketchy surroundings at times, this is a fun trail to ride! I was amazed at the volume of water flowing into and down the bayou! It even had rapids like a river in a few places! All in all, a great biking getaway in the heart of the big city!
I discovered this trail back in 2012. I was made aware of the issues they had (muggings) but I believe they have been resolved. It's a wonderful trail that connects us from the medical center/museum district to the east part of downtown. I ride this trail 2 - 3 times a month between 8am and noon. I've never had a problem and always ride with female friends.
