Old Cutler Trail

About as good as it gets in Miami

January, 2018 by forotondo

Nice trail overall that goes through some great neighborhoods. It’s a little noisy as Cutler is a very busy street, but at least one is safely on the path. I’m from the Northeast and hate riding the streets in Miami since drivers are very distracted here and not respectful of bikers compared to other parts of the country. This trail is a good way to still enjoy cycling here. I would recommend a ride to the Pinecrest farmers market on Sundays. There’s a lot of great street food there!

Legacy Trail (FL)

Fun, good scenery, greenery and quiet

January, 2018 by caroljensen

I loved this trail. Flat, wide, smooth, shade and lots of greenery. The trail doesn’t go through industrial areas which I like. I went from Laurel Park going north to Pine Ranch Station. Of all the trails I’ve done in southwest Florida, so far this is my favorite. There are places to sit in the shade and everyone was friendly. I was the only in-line skater but I rarely see other skaters on the trails. I felt like I could skate forever on this trail. I didn’t like crossing the street at the detour but that should be repaired soon. Good parking at Laurel Park and a bathroom by the playground. I didn’t see any wildlife. I didn’t see any children on this trail which was odd. But lots of bikers. I drove 1hour and 45 minutes to use this trail and it was worth it! Then I visited downtown Venice by car, which is very close and had lunch there.

Ichetucknee to O'Leno Trail

Nice Trail!

January, 2018 by dmckee622

We did enjoy the trail. We would not recommend it for road bikes. We could see that it might be a hot ride during the hot and humid summer months, but it was fine when we rode it (January). We didn't notice any real bad places in the pavement, but maybe a few "rough" spots. We would recommend riding into the Ichetucknee Park and riding to the river. There are also restrooms and a small store there.

Nature Coast State Trail

Great Scenic Trail!

January, 2018 by dmckee622

We really enjoyed this trail! We took two days to complete the trail, there and back. Fanning Springs is a great place to base your ride. The trail to Chiefland is more covered by trees and might be a cooler ride during hotter weather or during the hotter part of the day. The trail to Trenton is more open to the sun, especially during the afternoon. The trail to Cross City is covered by trees for about half and some open the other half. We really enjoyed all sections of the trail. We also would highly recommend the Lighthouse Restaurant in Fanning Springs and the Taste of Dixie Diner in Cross City.

Suwannee River Greenway at Branford

Nice, but could be better maintained in places.

January, 2018 by dmckee622

This trail is rated 4 stars, but just barely. The northern section is very nice, but had some limbs and such on the trail. The eastern section has lots of rough spots and holes in the pavement, especially east of where US 129 crosses the trail. We rode recumbent trikes and it was hard not to hit the bad spots. This would not be a good trail for road bikes. Overall we did enjoy the trail.

Gainesville-Hawthorne State Park Trail

Great Trail!

January, 2018 by dmckee622

This is a very nice trail. From the Gainesville side, it starts off a little hilly, but settles down after about 2 1/2 miles. The trail is very well maintained and nearly all has a nice canopy of trees. You have the impression of being in a nice forest. Even the portion that runs alongside the road, has trees between the road and the trail to give you the impression that you are surrounded by woods. Would highly recommend this trail to everyone!

This is a great trail for all levels. I moved here recently from Boston and it’s 2min from my house. I recommend it to anyone out for a leisurely ride or walk.

Gordon River Greenway

Wonderful Walk

January, 2018 by dmarcil21

Great trail. This is a well maintained asphalt and wooden boardwalk type trail. It's great that people can walk their dogs along this trail. We didn't see any wildlife, but the walk was invigorating and beautiful!

West Orange Trail

Winter Garden Trail Portion

January, 2018 by vidman10

An earlier review suggest that the Winter Garden portion of the trail prevented 5 stars. Sad, as the small town has an excellent historic museum, interesting train museum, excellent and tasty restaurants. Slow down, stop and smell the roses. Biking is not only an adventure, it is meant to be enjoyed as well.

Palatka-Lake Butler State Trail

Big things happening in 2018

December, 2017 by otherland

Another 5 miles of trail is being constructed east of Roberts Lane. This construction should be done around summer of 2018. The trail will then have a bit over 25 miles of continuous pavement. Not including the trail up to Gold Head State Park. This new section will bring the trail past county road 309C where you can then hop on a short 2 mile trail that will take you to a park with picnic tables and bathrooms (that are not always open).

Also coming in late spring early summer. Construction of a pavilion with picnic tables & a new playground will be completed at the Florahome trail-head. Thanks to the hard work of local residents and donations from business's..

Historic Jungle Trail

Unique scenic sandy road trail with a lot to offer

December, 2017 by y1htak

We started in the Pelican Island National Wildlife Refuge and rode the unlabeled Old Winter Beach Road to A1A. We would label the trail surface a 3 requiring some caution, but the scenic value of the trail and nice people is a 5. Therefore, we rated the trail a 4.

Initially we approached this trail with caution due to the last 2 reviews. However, they must have been written before the trail got cleaned up from the September hurricane. The trail looked like it had been recently graded and there were no downed trees.

The sand surface was mostly firm. On the entire trail there were maybe only 3 or 4 soft spots where the surface had been disturbed. Soft spots were easily avoided even on our tandem bike. The surface was a lot better than loose gravel or freshly laid ground-up asphalt that hasn’t weathered over summer. Wider tires, such as those on a mountain bike, would definitely work better than thin road bike tires.

Quite a few people were enjoying the holiday by walking, dog-walking, biking, golf carting, and driving down the trail. Saw a family with small kids. Everyone was courteous. The drivers drove slowly and carefully.

We enjoyed the windy road with the vegetation on both sides. We saw many wild birds, including white pelicans, egret, blue heron, etc. No snakes. Happy about that. Initially there was not much shade but further in it got shadier. You might want to wear sunglasses for the sun and the occasional cloud of insects you might pass through. Not a big deal as they didn’t bite. I found out about them from my husband on the front of the tandem.
