We didn't complete the trail but it was perfect for the kids (10 and 7). It was dirt and gravel with some hills but not too challenging.
Rode the 6 miles of concrete trail from Entrenchment Creek trailhead, over to and through Gresham Park, alongside Barack Obama School and past Sugar Creek golf course (safety netting in place), under 285 (cool) and over to the Georgia State University GPC campus. Excellent condition, very few users, lots of sites to see, parks, schools, golf courses, and it will eventually link to the eastern stretch of the trail that runs from MLK High School near Panola Shoals out to the Monastery of the Holy Spirit which is also a nice trail. Fun fact, in January 2018, a portion was renamed the Michelle Obama Trail in honor of her commitment to getting young folks moving. Sign in place at GSU campus end of trail.

New to the Ga. area and first time riding on the trail...I was Jacked!
The path, the scenery, people actually slide over "when you say, on your left" all are great!
My downfall (and that's just me) the trail isn't clearly marked.
As I was riding, hit a 3 way split...to the right deadend back of a school yard. Slightly to left & up a slight ramp and then left turn to what seems to be out to the busy street. Hard left, sharp right, up a slight ramp back on the trail. Rolling along, then the trail turned off right and up over bridge, (I didn't and didn't know) I found myself on a different trail and riding along side a few soccer fields and a nice challenging hill.
All in all...the ride is awesome, put in approx. 10 mi. total.

This was our first trail ride, had a great time. The trail is beautiful. Yes there are a few spots that you have to ride on the road but it is easy and safe. 95 percent of the ride is on a paved trail. One harry spot that is about 500 feet but other than that, this trail is super. DO IT !!
I've not only been over every inch of this trail as a recreational biker but I've also used it to commute to work at Fort Benning from my neighborhood deep in the Alabama side of the Chattahoochee. Riding to work I sweated street traffic until picking up the trail in downtown Columbus. After that it was very pleasant peddling along the safe Riverwalk at sunrise all the way into Fort Benning. On the ride home, it was a much slower trip because I would stop and look into every creek and slough along the way. Such "alligator habitat" side sights make this trail extra interesting. I no longer work at Benning but I still ride the trail which is great for tween and teen family members too.
I favor the Rotary Park access when taking children with me to the trail. From there one can go upriver to downtown, the rapids, and the mills. Or one can go downstream toward the wooded areas and Fort Benning.
An excellent recreational motive for peddling from Columbus south toward Benning are two attractions around the Benning end of the trail. One is the Oxbow Meadows Nature Center. The other is the Infantry Museum. The museum is outside of Benning's checkpoint gates so there is no hassle. But the Museum prohibits even "small pocket knives" so leave your bicycle maintenance multi-tool, your pepper spray, etc. at your bike before going in.
The pavement on this trail is generally smoother than downtown roads and much of the Riverwalk. However there are lots of rough spots that can trip a novice-class inline skater like myself. I've skated from Flat Rock Park to Psalmond Road and back a couple of times and I've completed a one-way from Flat Rock Park to the Train Station Burger King at the Peachtree Mall area. The later trip involves a 95 foot net elevation drop according to Google Earth and the same source shows the distance as 4.66 miles. From FRP to Psalmond Road is 1.3 miles and is 2.6 for the down and back. The asphalt to concrete junctions vary from well-meshed to quite rough, especially on the first bridge east of FRP. I skate with typical 80mm wheels and have had some trouble with rough spots so I may follow the trend to 110 or 125mm tri-skates for smoothing out the ride. I've fallen only twice and both times were on the rough pavement of the street crossings, once at Reese Road and once at nearby University Avenue. Fatigue probably played a part in the falls but the pavement is tricky. The trail uses yellow bump panels at the approaches to the crossings that are not inline skate friendly but the asphalt out in the road is more of a hazard.
I was delighted when this trail opened in my neighborhood!
My Belgian Sheepdogs and I take advantage of the fenced-in paved path for a nice off-leash walk, as often as possible.
The raised wooden walkway that winds through the forest is beautiful, and in the Springtime, the ancient Wisteria Forest is spectacular in full bloom!
We enjoyed our ride from Ft. Pulaski on a warm February day, but noticed the storm damage others have mentioned. A bridge with planks making it passable by walking; a couple of trees across the trail you have to carry bikes over; and the totally gone bridge at 2.2 miles as mentioned. We assumed the damage was from last fall (2017) but see from other reviews the problems go back much longer. We certainly aren’t calling out anybody who lives locally and supports this trail, but I don’t see why they couldn’t do some fund raising - start by putting a sign at the damage giving a website where one can donate.
Storm damage has left natural debris and caused damage to several bridges but it was still an enjoyable ride on flat hard-packed sandy, gravel, dirt path with Good views of marsh and Savannah River. Unfortunately first wood bridge was very damaged with wide gap and a few small planks to use. Safety hazard for those who don’t see it coming. Then, 2.2 miles brought us to a completely destroyed bridgeway. Only 2 metal pipes cross the canal, not a single wood plank remains, leaving a 20+ foot gap and forcing us to turnaround...no way to go forward. We had started at Fort Pulaski monument. Benches and workout points along the trail are also in disrepair. Hopefully improvements will come soon.
Nice ride on a paved trail.
This trail is great for seeing a lot of wildlife. We have seen barred owls, deer, hawks, snakes, and turtles. There are also signs of beavers. Very flat, paved, and a great place for walking your pets on a leash. The trail passes through thick woods, past marshy areas, and by undeveloped fields used for agriculture. Bathrooms and parking at both ends of 2.75 mile trail.
This is a great easy trail to walk and ride on! Along the trail are benches, picnic tables and work out obstacles... But.... 1.Coming from Fort Pulaski entrance at about 2.4 miles is a huge wash out.. (round trip is 4.82 miles) 2. From the Hwy 80 vehicle parking spot midway on the trail, going left (north) on the trail at about 2.5 miles is a huge wash out.. (round trip is 6.33 miles, utilizing the whole trail in both directions)
