Chesapeake & Ohio Canal National Historical Park

June 2018 Ride on C&O

June, 2018 by ron4packers_tl

I started at lock 6 and rode up to Great Falls Tavern. It was a great day. I saw a deer, a few herons, and the water was high on the Potomac. Trail was under construction in two places along the trail during my ride including at Great Falls. Still it is an enjoyable ride with lots of share on hot days.

Carl Henn Millennium Trail

West of Rt. 355 is great- stay away from the E. Gude side

June, 2018 by kda063079

Unfortunately, a person can't give ratings for different parts of a trail. The portion that is west of Rt. 355 (Frederick Road/Hungerford Drive) is quite nice. Especially the portions through the Fallsgrove and Rockshire communities. However, if you value your life, stay away from the portion along East Gude Drive. It is narrow and right next to a high speed road with extremely heavy truck traffic. The trail is strewn with broken glass and broken parts of automobiles. Since you are riding through an industrial park at this point, there are a lot of intersections with trucks and cars turning in front of you. It is best to stay away from this part.

Western Maryland Rail Trail

love this trail, West end closed

June, 2018 by smk

One of our favorites. About 3 miles on west end closed because of mud slides. Rest of trail good, but tree roots are starting to make some sections bumpy.

Baltimore and Annapolis Trail

Great trail for a power ride. Completed my first 18 mile ride here a few days ago. Great trail for awesome workout that doesn't wear me out completely.

BWI Trail

This was the first trail I've cycled since getting into biking. I enjoy it and was especially surprised by the scenery. Its a good mix of serenity and chaos. I like it!

WB&A Trail

I think this trail has promise. Hopefully the county will extend the trail headed towards Conway Road. For now it feels like picking and choosing which way to go on the trail and loop a few times to get the workout you are looking for.

Metropolitan Branch Trail

Don't meet the expectations of a trail

May, 2018 by sanmartm

Today I decided to try the trails I haven't ride in DC. Anacostia, Sligo, Takoma and Metropolitan Branch. The first three were a nice surprise. The last one, the MBT, was a disappointment. The first 3-4 miles until 8th street are a real trail. Then it becomes a loose segments on road with very poor signs and not well planned. I appreciate all the effort these guys have made but calling it a Trail is really misleading.

Kent Island South Trail

Nice ride

May, 2018 by youker

Tree roots have put a lot of bumps in the trail but they are working on refinishing parts of it. They have marked the bumps with yellow spray paint. They are worse at the south end so I suggest just keeping your eyes open to avoid the bumps. 5/3/18 Youker

Kent Island South Trail

Kent Island South Trail

Rode the Kent Island South Trail from Matapeake State Park to Romancoke Fishing Pier May 14, 2018. I started from the north end and rode on a Monday and only saw two joggers on the entire round-trip. Did see four bikers just starting the trail as I returned to my car. This trail runs within 15-40 yards of route 8 so you do hear some road noise from the cars. I would say 90% of the trail is in the sun. I only saw a porti-potty at the north end but there are restrooms at the Romancoke end so if you are riding with females or children I suggest you start at the southern end so they have a flush facility to use. If you wanted to add some distance to your ride there are several communities you could ride into. There are 2 gas stations and a carryout pizza shop about 2 miles north of the Matapeake end but I saw nothing along the trail or at the south end.

Gwynns Falls Trail

Tried riding the trail yesterday (4/30/18), but flooded out and closed for indefinite period of time. Very disappointing.....

Jones Falls Trail

Urban challenge!

May, 2018 by tom.joy

With no recent reviews, I was curious what we’d find. We parked at the arboretum and headed south. Through a residential area and into Druid park. We exited the park and things did turn “gritty.” We turned around at the Baltimore Bicycle Works because we didn’t want to brave riding on the road to the end. On our return ride, we explored the wide promenade around Druid Lake and the Rawlings Conservatory. We left the trail in the Woodberry area to find Artifact Coffee for a late lunch and enjoy unique salads and huge cookies. The return trip had significant uphill sections.
