Number Eight Streetcar Path Description

The #8 Streetcar Path runs just a short distance (0.33 mile) along part of the route of the former streetcar system that once ran between Catonsville and Ellicott City. The streetcar operated from 1896 to 1963. Also part of the same line is Trolley Line #9.

In 1996 the Old Catonsville Neighborhood Association cleaned up the trail, and in 1999 Catonsville Rails to Trails was formed to assume stewardship of the trail.

This delightful path features a 20-foot mural of a streetcar, and historical markers along the way relate its streetcar days. In addition, you'll find a restored waiting station at Catonsville Junction.

Number Eight Streetcar Path Reviews

It is mis-identified as being located in Baltimore City. It is actually in the Baltimore County community of Catonsville. When it was a functioning Streetcar line, this was the upper portion of the line running out to Ellicott City. The tracks ran straight down the middle of Edmundson Avenue. The final portion of the line is what is now known and the #9 Streetcar Trail, which picks up at the end of Edmonson Ave. and runs on down to Ellicott City.
